Box 513, NL–5600 MB Eindhoven, The Netherlands Full list of author information is available at the end of the article Abstract The purpose of the current work is the formulation of models for conservative and non-conservative dynamics in solid systems with the help of the General Equation for the Non-Equilibrium Reversible-Irreversible Coupling (GENERIC: e.g., Grmela and Öttinger, Phys. Rev. E 56(6), 6620 (1997); Öttinger and Grmela, Phys. Rev. E 56(6), 6633 (1997)). In this context, the resulting models are inherently spatially strongly non-local (i.e., functional) and non-isothermal in character. They are applicable in particular to the modeling of phase transitions as well as mass and heat transport in multiphase, multicomponent solids. In the last part of the work, the strongly non-local model formulation is reduced to weakly non-local form with the help of generalized gradient approximation of the energy and entropy functionals. On this basis, the current model formulation is shown to be consistent with and reduce to a recent non-isothermal generalization (Gladkov et al., J. Non-Equilib. Thermodyn. 41(2), 131 (2016)) of the well-known phase-field models of Cahn and Hilliard (J. Chem. Phys. 28(2), 258 (1958)) for conservative dynamics and of Allen and Cahn (Acta Metall. 27(6), 1085 (1979)) for non-conservative dynamics. Finally, the current approach is applied to derive a non-isothermal generalization of a phase-field crystal model for binary alloys (see, e.g., Elder et al., Phys. Rev. B 75(6), 064107 (2007)).

A truly meshless method formulation for analysis of non-Fourier heat conduction in solids

The non-Fourier effect in heat conduction is important in strong thermal environments and thermal shock problems. Generally, commercial FE codes are not available for analysis of non-Fourier heat conduction. In this study, a meshless formulation is presented for the analysis of the non-Fourier heat conduction in the materials. The formulation is based on the symmetric local weak form of the sec...

Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Method– Steady, Non-Isothermal Fluid Flow Applications

Abstract : The meshless local Petrov-Galerkin method with unity as the weighting function has been applied to the solution of the Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the stream function and vorticity formulation together with the energy equation are solved for a driven cavity flow for moderate Reynolds numbers using different point distributions. The L2-...

Generation of Love Wave in a Media with Temperature Dependent Properties Over a Heterogeneous Substratum

The present paper deals with the generation of Love waves in a layer of finite thickness over an initially stressed heterogeneous semi-infinite media. The rigidity and density of the layer are functions of temperature, i.e. they are temperature dependent.  The lower substratum is an initially stressed medium and its rigidity and density vary linearly with the depth. The frequency relation of Lo...

Output Consensus Control of Nonlinear Non-minimum Phase Multi-agent Systems Using Output Redefinition Method

This paper concerns the problem of output consensus in nonlinear non-minimum phase systems. The main contribution of the paper is to guarantee achieving consensus in the presence of unstable zero dynamics. To achieve this goal, an output redefinition method is proposed. The new outputs of agents are functions of original outputs and internal states and defined such that the dynamics of agents a...

Modeling and Optimization of non - isothermal two- phase flow in the cathode gas diffusion layer of PEM fuel cell

In this paper, a non-isothermal two-phase flow in the cathode gas diffusion layer (GDL) of PEM fuel cell is modeled. The governing equations including energy, mass and momentum conservation equations are solved by numerical methods. Also, the optimal values of the effective parameters such as the electrodes porosity, gas diffusion layer (GDL) thickness and inlet relative humidity are calculated...
